John Wesley Preaching

Despite the different struggles I have with guidance, not knowing wher eto go from here, there are common themes that have always stayed with me, in whatever I'm doing… such as music. Study of Scripture is close on my heart, and prayer.

Another thing that has been growing on my heart (as some may have noticed) is evangelism. Some of the reading material I have been absorbing lately (such as biographical works on John G. Lake and James Hudson Taylor) have been really inspiring.

More than that, though, as I have been spending time in more concentrated prayer over the last six or seven months, the blazing glory that surrounds the gospel of Christ has been (somewhat) revealed to me. The more I think on it, the more I read about it, the more I listen to it and people speak on it, the more it captivates my heart.

I have come to realize that mature Christians (meaning the ones I look up to the most, when I think about it) have not less emphasis on the gospel but more in their lives; in the preaching of it, yes, but even more I am struck at the captivated attitude they hold towards it… how the cross of Jesus Christ is so central to all that we, as believers, do, whether it is in the secular spheres or otherwise.

It makes me feel a bit slow to be realizing this now… I have been a Christian for as long as I can remember. However, as they say, better late than never, right?

Anyhow, as I said earlier, the more I sink into the gospel, the more that I am moved by it; the more I am moved by it, the more I realize that I relate to it. As this goes on, my desire to spread this gospel has grown correspondingly. Three of us have started going down to one of our busier club districts on Friday nights, handing out tracts, singing worship, and talking to people. Well, we at least plan on doing it regularly… last Friday (January 22) was the first time we three have gone out together… but two of us at least were able to share the gospel with at least one person each, and we handed out a pretty good stack of tracts!

So… please remember us ministry in your prayers. It isn't much, and I'll be away for a month coming up in a couple of weeks, but I think it's important that we engage in regular outreach… because, honestly, this is the most outreach I've done in very many months… basically since a couple of half-hour Friday nights with the DTS a couple months ago. Pray that James, Aisea and I are bold but wise, that we glorify God with every word that comes out of our mouth and every action we take in the flesh. Pray that God would continue to reveal His beauty and love and majesty to us as we seek to draw others to Him, that we might see them glorify Him as well.
